Healthcare · The walk sheet

One page. Carry it through the building.

This is not the book — it’s what you carry. Walk from your own experience; at the end of each zone, stop and run the few items for that zone. It’s built to surface two or three things worth a real look, not to grade you. If nothing here is new, that’s a good day.

Hospital security walk · one page

Walk it outside-in. Stop at each pause point.

Note the answer, not a score. An “I don’t know” is itself a finding — it means nobody has asked. You’re after two or three that stick, then a conversation.

1 · The lot
Pause here: before you go inside
The farthest space from a staffed door — time the walk.
Which corner goes dark first at dusk.
Is the longest walk also the thinnest-covered at shift change?
2 · The parking structure
Pause here: on a middle level, before moving on
Count the blind corners from where you stand.
Take the enclosed stair the way anyone on foot would — who could see you?
Clap once. Does the sound smear and echo, or stay put?
3 · The entrance
Pause here: standing in the doorway
Count the ways in; how many are attended?
Pick one open door — who decided it stays open, and is that written down?
4 · The public interior
Pause here: at the front desk
Walk in as a visitor would — did anything ask who you are?
Ask the desk how they’d verify someone they didn’t recognize.
5 · The departments
Pause here: at the door of each unit you own
ED: find the door the screening policy exempts.
Behavioral health: could any mounted device be a fixed point? Check the low ones.
Maternity: when was the tag system last tested, not just installed?
Pharmacy: could you reconcile one cabinet event across systems?
Wanderer: does the exit know a patient’s risk flag?
6 · The staff’s day
Pause here: where staff actually stand, not the desk
From a bedside, could you reach a duress point with a patient between you and the wall?
Does a call for help reach a person with a location — or a screen nobody watches?
7 · The systems
Pause here: at a screen or a badge reader
Pick last Tuesday — can you retrieve one door event with its video, and how long did it take?
Find the door people prop. What is the workaround working around?
8 · What’s changing
Pause here: if any build or reno is live
What stage is it in — and is space and power reserved for a head-end you haven’t picked?
Was anyone who knows the security need in the room when the paths were drawn?
9 · After
Pause here: back at your desk
Could one person produce a full event timeline across systems, aligned?
Will the video still exist when an investigation asks — months later?

This is a first step, not a diagnosis. It’s built to find the few things worth a professional look — which starts not at your fence but at your documents and your incident history. When two or three of these stick, that’s the conversation to have.
